Freedom Is Not Free 19 June 2018

GREETINGS RISE UP FAMILY!! I have been out of the building for a couple of weeks and it feels good to me back.  Today marks our only INDEPENDENCE DAY JUNE 19, 1865, The announcement of the abolition of slavery in the last remaining U.S. state of Texas. The very state that CURRENTLY holds families of Latin decent in Walmart stores that have been converted into detention camps. Children are being caged like animals. Families ripped apart. United States routinely practices inhumane acts of genocide and  has brutalized people of color. If we as humans are so desensitized to cruel and oppressive behavior towards other humans.  What does that say about our society as a whole?  If we don’t stand up for each other and fight for the equal rights of all are we really free? We are allowing our current standing president to us fear based tactics to justify such horrible acts towards black and brown communities.  FREEDOM HAS NEVER BEEN FREE.  We have to rise up and take a stand for the rights of all.  PERIOD!!

“Freedom is not something that anybody can be given. Freedom is something people take, and people are as free as they want to be” -James Baldwin

The * Booth – Season of the Sickness – Ep.10 – Cali’s Finest Fathers

Live tonight @ 8pm PST from San Francisco Ca.

special guest(s) this week: Cali’s Finest

The * Booth is a podcast on the radio, that’s not the radio, but kind of the radio, and is really a podcast.

Hosted by: Rizal Mabuhay @mestizo_the_mayor . Rizal, a performance artist of many different mediums, basically loves conversation. His desire to shed light on the Bay Area sensibility, that has spawn many generations of art and innovation, is the driving force behind The Booth.
Along for the ride is a perfect ensemble of personalities that create the vibe for the space to air open and honest discussion. @mus_madd_hatter (Darnell), who is a performance artis in his own right, acts as the fact checker on the show. @jessyarlyn , the business man and a father of two, most often calls in from Seattle to share his thought. @da_pradukt (roc scott) is also a business woman, who is also responsible for all of the beautiful photographs of The Booth, also brings a unique perspective to the show.

The idea for this show dates back to 1997-1998 with the idea of a shitake booth as a play on words. It’s an open forum to discuss openly, any and all topics that are important to whomever is in The * Booth. We are attempting to bring to light all of the interesting people we know, and extend an invitation to speak with interesting people that we would like to learn from. Art is Life & Life is Art.

Matthew Félix: Refugee Camps & Being Not Doing

Sunday, 6/17, 2:00 – 4:00 Pacific
Live from Studio 1A

Northern California journalist Cathy Miller recently spent three weeks volunteering at a refugee camp in Greece. We’ll talk about the refugee crisis, life in the camps, and Cathy’s incredible experiences on the frontline of a tragedy most of us only read about in the headlines. Cathy is a contributor to the Redwood Record, the Eureka Times-Standard, and the North Coast Journal, as well as a volunteer with Refugee Support Europe, a charitable non-governmental organization of 400+ volunteers and staff based in London.

My second guest was a no-show because of a family emergency. So, rather than come up with 45 minutes of filler, I wrapped up the show early. Apologies and lesson learned! I will have a “spare show” prepared as back-up going forward…
