SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Once again, San Francisco’s professional comedy community is pulling out the stops to bring laughter to Sharon Meadow in Golden Gate Park on Sunday, September 18th from noon to 5 p.m. FCCFREE Radio is once again a media partner for this long-standing event. For more information, visit the Web site at www.comedyday.com or call 415-820-1570. “We try to bring some levity to people’s lives and put a funny spin on the serious issues we deal with daily in the news,” said Debi Durst, Board President of Comedy Day. “Our goal is to make people forget about the economy, global warming, astronomical gas prices, questionable politics or other havoc for at least a day.” The complete cast of comedians will be announced in late August, and updates will be made daily to the ComedyDay.org Web site. Also on tap will be the annual Stand-up Comedy Legend Award, given each year to a comedian who has excelled at the craft of comedy, amusing multitudes of fans throughout their career. Past winners include Ronnie Schell, Michael Pritchard, Father Guido Sarducci (Don Novello), Enrico Banducci (impresario and former owner of the hungry i), Wavy Gravy, Frank Kidder, Rebecca Erwin Spencer, José Simon, Pat Morita, Pat Paulsen, Robin Williams and Will Durst. Who will be this year’s award winner?
FCCFREE Radio is home to more than 200,000 hours of original LIVE content that emanates from the plush studios in the Civic Center district of San Francisco. It features 50+ programs broadcast from two state-of-the-art studios. It’s a haven for Bay Area comedy fans as much of the programming features homegrown and visiting comedians. FCCFREE Radio also broadcasts music programming featuring the best indie, alternative, underground and other genres. Comedy Day founder Jose Simon’s dream of a free, open-air comedy celebration became a reality in 1981, and since that time, nearly three-quarters of a thousand of the world’s funniest comedians have performed gratis for more than a half-million happy people.
